The TV animated show Sofia the First, one of the last characters in joining our catalog of Disney characters, has been nominated for six Emmy awards at the 41st Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards (which will take place on June 22nd), including Outstanding Preschool Children’s Animated Program. A sample of the impact it is having this new character, which are expanding products in our collections.

Frozen

If you have small children at home, you will have noted that Frozen, the last Disney film, has become a big phenomenon. Last Christmas became a box office hit and was further rewarded with two Hollywood Oscars: Best Animated Film and Best Original Song.

This success continues with the release of the film in domestic format, which has already raised more than $400 million, and has grossed over $1.19 billion in worldwide box office.

The Frozen soundtrack is now one of only 39 albums in the history of the Billboard 200 chart to have spent at least 13 weeks at number one (the chart began in 1956). The soundtrack is also marking its tenth nonconsecutive week of sales exceeding 100,000 copies. As of last week, cumulative sales for the soundtrack stand at 2.6 million units, of which 2.2 million have been sold in 2014.

Spiderman

Everyone’s favorite web-slinging, wall-crawling Super Hero is back in theaters! Debuting with an opening weekend of $92 million in North America, the film has soared to over $550 million in global box office receipts. Product demand for Spider-Man continues to build, and will carry through the Blu-ray/DVD release this fall.

Marvel

MARVEL world continues to be successful and expand its presence in all possible platforms. The live action series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has been green-lit for a second season and will return to TV this fall.
